How we scored Vegetarian fit
A product passes the vegetarian screen if its ingredient list contains no meat, poultry, fish, gelatin, collagen, lard, or tallow. Dairy, eggs, and honey are allowed. Pass/fail, then ranked by overall Labelgrade.
Every score is computed from the same USDA nutrition and ingredient data we use for the public Labelgrade, applied to the documented rules in our diet-fit engine — no proprietary "score brewing." All nutrition verified against USDA FoodData Central. See how Labelgrade grades food. Last refreshed 2026-06-03.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a product fail the vegetarian screen?
Any meat, poultry, fish, or seafood ingredient, plus the hidden ones: gelatin (in some yogurts, marshmallow-style protein treats, and gummies), collagen, lard, tallow, and suet. Dairy and egg ingredients are fine for vegetarians and do not fail the screen.
Is gelatin vegetarian?
No. Gelatin is made from animal collagen (typically pork or beef). It shows up in some protein products you might not expect — certain yogurts, protein gummies, and marshmallow-style bars. Our screen flags it, so any gelatin-containing product is excluded from this list.
Are these also good for muscle building?
Yes — dairy gives vegetarians access to the highest-protein-density packaged foods on the market (Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, whey). The list above ranks by Labelgrade, but you can see exact protein per serving on each pick and on its full fact sheet.
